Queer Comics Club for teens graphic

Queer comics club

Do you love Heartstopper? Are there other LGBTQIA+ graphic novels you love, and want to discuss? Join CHPL librarians in a monthly graphic novel book club for teens that centers queer stories and voices. Each month we'll have a group of graphic novels to choose from. Read one (or more) and join us for an evening of chatting, fun, and snacks!

For teens and tweens in grades 6-12.

Cookies & Acrostics

Cookies & Acrostics

Celebrate Black History Month by exploring the life and work of George Moses Horton, an enslaved poet who was the first African American author to publish a book in the South. Not only did Horton achieve this historic milestone, he also sold poetry—just up the street—to UNC students in the 1800s.

Join other teens and learn about his life, read some of his poetry, and then create our own acrostic poems. After writing, we’ll get crafty with paper folding techniques to turn your poem into a beautiful keepsake.

Enjoy cookies and hot cocoa while connecting history, creativity, and community.

For grades 6-12
