FAQs

  • If you received a confirmation email after your submission, we received your request and are reviewing it.

  • It can take up to four weeks for a request to show in our catalog. Please check there to see if we purchased yours.

  • Due to the volume of requests, we don't respond individually.

There are a few common reasons we may not purchase a title for our collection:

  • It doesn't adequately meet our collection development guidelines.

  • It’s not available from our contracted library vendor.

  • It’s out of print, self-published, or not available in the format you’ve requested.

    • Note: Many movies and TV shows may not be released on DVD, especially if it's on a streaming service. We don't purchase Blu-rays if it's the only format available.

CHPL is a member of the North Carolina Digital Library consortium.  An executive board determines which titles to purchase for the all-ages collection.  Member libraries can purchase additional copies of titles in high demand by their patrons or new titles to expand the collection.  Demand from CHPL patrons for titles already in the collection is high, and our budget is used entirely to meet that demand.

CHPL patrons also have access to NCKids and NCKids Level Up, which are collections of digital books and audio books for kids and teens funded by several groups, including the State Library of North Carolina.

Local authors may contact the Acquisitions & Collections or Youth & Family Experiences Managers to request their work be considered for the collection. Donated works by local authors may be accepted if the material meets collection guidelines. We do not return donations or track their status once donated.
