The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for any photography, filming, or recording on library premises.

Permission for Photography, Filming, and Recording 

In general filming, photography, and recording in the library is permitted as long as it does not disrupt library operations, violate patron privacy, or require specialized equipment such as tripods and/or lighting.  Filming, photography, and recording on library premises are subject to the following:  

By library staff  

Chapel Hill Public Library staff regularly take photos and video of library events, programs, or for general library promotion.  By participating in library programs and events, participants are giving consent for CHPL to use these photos, video, and recordings for publication and/or posting on the library’s website, newsletter, or social media platforms.  If you would like to opt out or request a photo or video be taken down, please let a staff member know. 

For commercial use 

Prior approval from the Library Director is required for any commercial filming, photography, or recording on library premises.   

By patrons 

Casual photography or filming by patrons to memorialize a library visit is permitted so long as specialized equipment is not used.  Expressed permission is required from any individuals who are filmed, photographed, or recorded in the library.
