Program Description

Event Details

The Right to Read (& Write) is a political poetry writing workshop that strives to encourage an understanding of poetry as a vehicle for voice and action. In this workshop, participants (grades 6-12) will practice using the form of blackout or erasure poetry to respond to educational policies that aim to censor books and limit intellectual freedom and free speech. The participants will be making poetry postcards on the importance of intellectual freedom and free speech that they will then be encouraged to local, state, and federal legislators.
