Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24: The library is currently scheduled to be open regular hours. 

Sunday, January 25 and Monday, January 26: Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed due to hazardous winter weather forecasts. All programs are cancelled. If you have items due soon, please hold on to them if possible. For updates on library hours and programs Tuesday and beyond, please check our website and social media.

The Friends Big Book Sale has thousands of great books and puzzles for all ages at bargain prices. Please note extended shopping hours on both Friday and Saturday!

Friday is for Friends members only. If you're not a member, you can join or renew now or at the entrance and shop for book bargains before the sale opens to the public. Employees of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools are also welcome to attend on Friday - just show your staff ID at the entrance.

To promote a safe environment in the busy Library lobby and facilitate a positive shopping experience for everyone, customers are expected to comply with Guidelines for Book Dealers and Other Large Order Customers, including a limit on the number of containers that can be stored in the lobby and purchased on any one visit (although multiple visits are welcome).

All shoppers are encouraged to bring their own bags. Book dealers will be charged for extra boxes supplied by the Friends.
 

The library parking lot will be very full during the sale. Additional parking for book sale customers is available in the back section of the Fast Med parking lot at 1407 East Franklin.

  • Saturday, August 23: 10 am - 5 pm
  • Sunday, August 24: 10 am - 3 pm ($10 Bag Sale)
